Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Thinly slice the apple with a mandoline, then cut the slices vertically in half.
Melt the butter and brush it generously onto each brick sheet. Fold the sheets into accordions and place them in a large baking dish.
Insert the apple slices into the crinkles. Bake for 10 minutes.
In a large bowl, whisk the sugar, ground almonds, eggs, buttermilk, applesauce, vanilla, and salt until combined.
Pour the batter over the brick sheets. Carefully separate the crinkles with two forks to help the batter sink in. Top with slivered almonds. Bake for 35 minutes at 180°C, fan.
Dust with icing sugar or serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
