Strengthening our commitments to the environment with our new photovoltaic system

Respecting the environment is an integral part of Luxlait’s values. A variety of measures are enabling the agricultural cooperative to steadily reduce its carbon footprint. A major step in this commitment has just been carried out on the roof of the dairy.

In the presence of Ms Carole DIESCHBOURG, Minister for the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development, and Mr Claude TURMES, Minister of Energy and Spatial Planning, Luxlait inaugurated its new photovoltaic installation on Friday 2nd of April 2021. With a total of 5,391 photovoltaic panels, this is one of the largest systems in the Grand Duchy.

“Our contribution to a sustainable future is one of the priorities of our development policy. We must make it a point of principle to manufacture responsibly while respecting our environment.”  Gilles GERARD – CEO of Luxlait

In a first phase, 1,613 panels with an installed capacity of ± 500 KWp were connected in 2020. Luxlait having responded and won the Luxembourg government tender for the development of new photovoltaic power plants, 3,778 additional panels producing 1.36 MWp will be connected to the grid this Friday 02/04.

Almost the entire usable roof area (i.e. more than 14,000m2) is thus used to bring the total production of green electricity to ± 1.61 TWh for a total installed capacity of ± 1.85 MWp.

The energy produced corresponds to ±10% of Luxlait’s consumption, which corresponds to the annual consumption of +/- 535 households or 8,392,165 km driven in an electric car.

The photovoltaic system is not Luxlait’s only sustainable commitment, eco-responsibility has long been embedded in the values of the cooperative.
